Prompt:Your challenge is to design a mobile app that facilitates authentic connections and builds genuine relationships between college students - providing an interesting yet safe experience to engage with other students.
Liink is a friending app for college students that facilitates friendships based on shared interests and proximity. To ensure user safety, student verification is required before you can build your profile. Liink will generate recommended friends based on shared interests. To eliminate the harshness of swiping right or left on friendship, users can instead request to link up. Once both parties have accepted, they are encouraged to use the chat page to get to know one another. There, users will have the ability to send their own message or use an ice breaker question, which is tailored toward their common interests. This allows students to skip the awkward small talk and form a deeper, more genuine friendship.
Additionally, the Liink home page consists of various open-invites to non-campus affiliated events. Users can RSVP and add events to their calendar as well as post their own events – the idea is to help transition these relationships from online to in-person.
Working along side two Boston University Students, we created a prototype for an app we named "aroundme." Aroundme allows for a fluid connection between you and your community organizations. From volunteering events to local festivals, you can now view and sign up for all community events in one place. By creating a profile and choosing your interests, aroundme creates a personalized list of events that cater toward your interests that are then displayed on a map.
I focused on the branding around aroundme. I wanted to create something that was simple, yet timeless. I wanted it to be easily recognizable with a unique color palate that drew the attention of the young generation. I came to the conclusion of using a color palate that consisted of a deep teal, dark orange, and hints of light yellow to balance. The "e" is surrounded by colored dew drops to remind the user that there is always something and someone for you, and ultimately, around you.
